Finalmente vi possiamo mostrare qualche elemento del nostro ultimo progetto, Coeur de Papier (Cuore di Carta). Questo sarà il primo numero in una serie di tre, scritta da Bruno Enna, disegnata da Giovanni Rigano, pubblicato da Soleil Productions (Francia) per collana Métamorphose, diretta da Barbara Canepa & Clotilde Vu. Il primo libro uscirà in gennaio, per il Festival d'Angoulême.

Finally we can show you something about our last project, Coeur de Papier (Paper Heart). This will be the first issue in a serie of three, written by Bruno Enna, drawn by Giovanni Rigano and published by Soleil Productions (France) for the Métamorphose collection, directed by Barbara Canepa & Clotilde Vu. The first book will be out in january for the Angoulême Festival.

Quella che abbiamo intenzione di raccontarvi non è una storia per Bambini Qualsiasi.
What we want to tell is not a story for Any Children.

Le storie per Bambini Qualsiasi parlano di bambini buoni e Crystal (Kriss) Bottomwine non è buono. Lui è viziato, scontroso, a volte un po’ antipatico e fin troppo curioso. Difficile fare amicizia con lui. Ancora più difficile sentirsi COME lui.
Stories for Any Children are about good children and Crystal (Kriss) Bottomwine is not a good one. He’s spoilt, grumpy, sometimes a bit antipathetic and much too curious. Really hard to socialize with. Much harder try to feel AS he feels.

Non solo: nelle storie per Bambini Qualsiasi, se si parla della morte lo si fa alla lontana, magari usando raffinate metafore. La morte è un’entità astratta, un evento imperscrutabile, una semplice e serena mancanza. Nella storia che vogliamo raccontarvi, invece, la morte pesa quanto una bara piena. Si respira, aleggia tra le stanze della Casa, in mezzo ai discorsi sommessi dei suoi piccoli ospiti, oppure fa capolino attraverso le finestrelle smerigliate che separano la Sala Comune dal Giardino Uggioso.
Not only: in Any Children’s stories, when you speak about death you do it from distance, maybe using sophisticated methaphors. Death is an abstract entity, an inscrutable event, a simple and serene absence. In the story we’re going to tell, instead, death weights like a full coffin. You can breath it blowing gently over the House’s rooms, between the subdued speeches of its little guests, or peeking over the small frosted windows which part the Big Hall from the Dull Garden.

Infine (e QUESTA è la vera differenza con la storia che vogliamo raccontarvi), nelle storie per Bambini Qualsiasi, tutto... finisce... bene.
Then (and THIS is the real difference in the story we are going to tell), in Any Children’s stories, there is... an happy... ending.

Non aspettavi, dunque, una storia per Bambini Qualsiasi. Non date assolutamente questa storia in mano a vostro figlio. Sarebbe come affidargli un paio di forbici e poi chiedergli di correre per la stanza, oppure regalargli un pezzo di fil di ferro e indicargli una presa elettrica. Siete avvertiti. Noi mettiamo le mani avanti. Decliniamo ogni responsabilità.
Don’t expect, so, an Any Children story. Don’t put absolutely this story in your son’s hands. It would be as entrusting him a pair of scissors and then asking to run over the room, or giving him a wire and pointing out at the electrical terminal. You’re warned. We disclaim any responsibility.

Tuttavia, quella che vogliamo raccontarvi È una storia per bambini.
Bambini particolari, s’intende.
However, what we’re going to tell IS still a story for children.
Peculiar children, of course.

Bambini che guardano i telegiornali in attesa di qualche buona notizia, che sperano nell’amicizia malgrado tutto, che scavano alla ricerca di piccoli tesori nascosti nella memoria, che leggono fumetti senza smontarli come giocattoli consumati.
Children who look at the television waiting for some good news, who believe in friendship despite all, who dig deep looking for all those little treasures hidden in their memory, who read comicbooks without dismantling them as old toys.

Se siete QUESTO tipo di bambini, qualsiasi sia la vostra età, allora mettetevi comodi. E ricordate: prima di entrare in un mondo nuovo, pulitevi sempre i piedi.
If you’re THIS kind of children, no matter how old you are, please take a seat. And remember: before entering in a new world, you'd better clean up your feet.

Quella che abbiamo intenzione di raccontarvi non è solo una storia che parla di Bambini Particolari, ma è anche una storia che parla di Vecchie Case.
What we’re going to tell is not only a story speaking about Peculiar Children, but also a story about Ancient Manors.

Vecchie Case molto MINACCIOSE, ovviamente.
Ancient Manors very MENACING, of course.

Parliamo di luoghi perlopiù abitati da ombre, o comunque da persone che oramai hanno consumato gran parte della loro anima, nel bene o nel male. Persone anziane, spesso avide di vita, che col tempo sono diventate egoiste e sempre più AFFAMATE.
We deal about places mostly resided by shadows, or by people who now have consumed big part of their soul, for better or worse. Old people, often greedy of life, who became selfish and HUNGRY more and more.

Queste Vecchie Case hanno delle caratteristiche riconoscibili: sono piene di oggetti affascinanti, di presenze inquietanti, di respiri stantii, di rumori notturni, di gelidi refoli, di scale scricchiolanti e di porte chiuse a doppia mandata.
These Ancient Manors are recognizable for some peculiarities: they’re full of misterious objects, disturbing presences, stale breath, night noises, icy gusts, creaking stairs and double locked doors.

In certi corridoi, gli spettri sono talmente numerosi che al nostro passaggio si squarciano come ragnatele sulla faccia.
In some corridors, spectra are so many that they rip themselves as we passed like cobwebs on the face.

Nel giardino, in bella mostra sugli alti muri di cinta, i rovi salgono e scendono alla ricerca di carni da graffiare.
In the garden, on display on high walls, the thorns go up and down in search of meat to scratch.

All’interno delle pareti, talvolta scivolano lunghi serpenti metallici che spiano, annusano e sibilano, alitando cattivi odori.
Inside the walls, sometimes metallic snakes slide down and peep and smell and hiss, breathing bad odors.

E gli orologi... in queste Vecchie Case, gli orologi sono enormi polmoni meccanici che scandiscono il giorno e la notte, accelerando quando necessario, per dimezzare le ore di luce in favore del buio.
And the clocks ... in these Ancient Manors, clocks are huge mechanical lungs that beat the day and the night, accelerating when needed to halve the hours of light in favor of the dark.

In questi luoghi, gli oggetti sono creature che respirano e gli ambienti sono mondi da attraversare con il cuore in gola.
In these places, objects are breathing creatures and environments are worlds to get through with heart beating in throat.

Nella storia che vogliamo presentarvi, dunque, non parleremo di inutili Case Accoglienti e di posti che vogliono sembrare piacevoli, ma di luoghi tanto scomodi quanto sinceri, che sussurrano antichi e dolorosi ricordi.
In the story we’re going to introduce, therefore, we won’t talk about unnecessary Cozy Homes and places that want to look nice, but only about places so awkward as sincere, that whisper ancient and painful memories.

Queste Vecchie Case non sono certo adatte ai bambini; eppure, nella nostra storia, una di esse ha giusto il piacere di ospitarne parecchi.
These Ancient Manors are certainly not suitable for children; yet in our story, one has just the pleasure of host many of them.

Non parliamo di Bambini Qualsiasi, ovviamente. Ma questo, l’abbiamo già detto...
We’re not speaking about Any Children, of course. But this, we already said it...
